Day of the dead
Dir. George A. Romero

The third of Romero's zombie movies, and he still knocks up a stonker.

In this instalment we are with one of the last groups of survivors - military and science personnel holed up in an underground base.

Anyway, as the story unfolds it becomes clear that they are now out of communication with other survivors, and that internal tensions are growing between the scientists and the soldiers.

Romero tells us a human story about a scientist who has lost his reason, another trying not to lose hope and soldiers who have just lost it. It also features a zombie called Bub.

Well paced, good fun, loads of gore, and a good character driven story, even if some characters lack depth. A little too sympathetic to the zombies but still a great film.

Landing a helicopter in the middle of a zombie infested town is unwise at best, that combined with a fundamental breakdown in team communication scores it only one in the survival stakes
